Art serves a variety of purposes. It can be used as decoration,
a tool to inspire and uplift or it can be used to document places,
people and events. It can also be used to create a social statement.
This important work of abstract art is one of the most powerful
social statements of the 20th century.
"INTEGRATION" is the product of the civil rights era and
the struggle for all Americans, regardless of their skin color
to be treated equally under law.
This painting promotes "integration" - showing that
a man is more than black or white and can
live in harmony. It shows how skin hues are found
in both and creates a masterpiece social statement.
A daring work for it's time; it captures the civil rights era.
The civil rights era produced lots of icons and heroes.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks are some of the more
well known heroes, but there were unsung heroes too.
S. Jerome, in this cubist work, puts his own civil rights message into art.
It's a historic reminder of the struggles that Black Americans
have faced to achieve social equality.
Jerome believed all men were equal regardless of the
color of their skin and this painting tells this message
effortlessly with just a single glance. S. Jerome did not
become a celebrated artist like Andy Warhol and his art career
was very short (approx. 1958-64) but he left history this
wonderful testament to equality!
Original Civil Rights era works of this significance seldom are
available in the marketplace and we are honored to
make this work available for the first time in half a century.
Over sixty years have passed since this
work was created and it remains just as meaningful
as ever - perhaps more significant as the struggle
for liberty and equality continue throughout the world!
In very good condition! There are several nail holes in the
wood. It appears as if those were present when the work
was created and the board used was reclaimed material.
Signature in lower right corner. Titled & dated verso.
A magnificent addition to your fine art collection!
