PAG-17 (ПАГ-17 - Russian) - optical sight, which serves for aiming when shooting at targets at various distances.
Purpose of sight
The PAG-17 sight is designed for aiming both at direct fire and from closed positions. To do this, the sight is equipped with a goniometric mechanism and a mechanism for elevation angles for aiming in the horizontal and vertical planes. There are two levels for roll and elevation control. The sight is also equipped with an illuminated reticle and pointing mechanism scales for aiming at night.

Product device
The sight consists of a housing in which a goniometer and an elevation angle mechanism and a head with an optical system are assembled. The housing serves to connect all parts of the sight. It has a sight axis with an oval notch and a pin for attaching a sight; a bar for mounting cartridges for backlighting scales and levels.
An inclinometer is assembled in the upper part of the body, which serves for horizontal aiming. It consists of a goniometer ring with a pointer, a goniometer drum with a pointer, offsets and a transverse level. The goniometer ring is fixed on the axis of the housing with the help of a worm wheel and has a scale divided into 60 equal large divisions. The price of a large division is equal to 100 divisions of the goniometer (1-00). Numbering is given every 5 divisions.
The goniometer drum is connected to the worm wheel with the help of a worm screw and has a scale divided into one hundred equal divisions. Numbering is given every 10 divisions. Divisions 0 and 100 are the same. The price of each bar is 1 bar (0-01). With one complete revolution of the drum (100 divisions), the goniometric ring scale changes its position by one large division.
The layer is used to disengage and engage the worm screw with the worm wheel.
The elevation angle mechanism is used for vertical aiming. It consists of a scale of large divisions of the sight with a pointer on the axis of the sight, a sight drum with longitudinal level indicators.
The scope scale is divided into 14 equal divisions, each of which corresponds to 100 divisions of the sight drum scale. It has a reflector to improve the illumination of the large division scale at night.
The sight drum scale is divided into 100 equal divisions. Numbering is given every 10 divisions. Divisions 0 and 100 are the same. The price of each division is equal to 1 thousandth. With a full turn of the drum (100 divisions), the body of the sight changes its position by one large division.
The longitudinal level serves to control and give a given elevation angle when firing from a closed firing position.
The head of the sight is used for sighting on the target (point of aiming) an optical system is assembled in it. There is an eyecup on the back of the head; on the left - front sight and rear sight for direct aiming in case of damage to the optical system; on top - a base for attaching a cartridge for illuminating the sight reticle; on the front of the frame there are two screws for fixing the light filter.
The optical system of the sight consists of a lens, a prism, a reticle, an eyepiece and a protective glass.
The lens is designed to obtain images of the observed object.
The prism is an inverting system and serves to obtain a real direct image.
The sight reticle is a plate on which the scales of aiming angles and lateral corrections are applied.
The eyepiece is used to increase the viewing of the image of the observed object and the grid.
The protective glass protects the sight from dust and dirt getting inside. Through it, the reticle is illuminated.
