Multi-color Vintage Antique Peruvian Gourd Box with Lid
Small Intricate hand-carving
over entire outside
of the
gourd,
including the underneath.
Gourd contents have been removed to create a
container with zig-zag lid.
A carved dot on the lid lines up with a similar carved dot on the gourd
base showing you exactly where to put the lid back on
(photo 1).
Flower pattern on the lid is repeated on the base.
Figures create a fabulous pattern of costumes,
legs and feet
around the flower base (photos 8,9)
The gourd's beautiful 4-color variations are created
by taking a smoldering stick over the surface.
Peruvian life and traditions are depicted:
horse rider
and
musicians in traditional dress,
fighters, t
raditional musical instruments,
llama/alpaca,
monkeys,
parrots, panther, bull fighting, dog.
Cocoa bean plant
pattern
in the background unifies the whole design.
No signature.
3 fine cracks and other minor defects
commensurate
with age,
use and material.
The cracks do not go all the way
through the gourd
