Torito de Pucara Vintage Painted Terra Cotta Pottery Peruvian Bull SculptureThis estate find The “Torito de Pucará” is made of clay, and hand painted by artisans in the Peruvian Andes. Traditionally, they are placed around the house and on the roof for good luck, prosperity, wealth, strength, resilience, health, crop and animal fertility and to protect and strengthen the families. They are typically given as presents and most houses in southern Peru have the bulls on their roofs. They originated from Puno, a mountainous region in southeastern Peru from precolonial times. The Toritos in their various forms and colors are expressions of Peruvian cultural heritage, as well as expressions of the ancient Tiahuanaco and Inca cultures.
The offered pottery piece is most likely from mid 20th century.
