    Description

The pututu ('conch shell' in Quechua language) or pututo
The sea snail pututo, is a very old wind musical instrument, which appears in connection with all the old Peruvian cultures from the most remote and advanced to the last of the Incas and was used as a means of communication and music. The pututu was brought from the coast.
The pututu was used as an instrument that called special meetings or announced important events during the Inca Empire. Its sound also served to give signs in situations of emergency or danger. In some ceremonies it was used symbolically for the call of the condor (spirit of the kuntur).
The pututu is used from remote times to appease the evil spirits through harmonic sounds and sensitize the senses, in the musical instruments the snail gives the beginning for the gods to listen to the music that is dedicated to them, it is also used at the end to give thanks for being heard.
