Description
The Chancay style pottery comes from extensive cemeteries located in Ancon and the Chancay valley itself. The most frequent forms are pitchers with wide neck, in which there is a face modeled, commonly called "Chinese" and figurines representing men and women with arms raised, called "cuchimilcos". Also common are the vessels modeled with animal shapes, such as birds and llamas, as well as female figurines with short arms and eyes accented with a line on both sides.
Its ceramic is characterized by its decoration painted with dark color on a light colored background (cream or white) the most frequent forms are oblong pitchers with wide neck, the decoration could be applied or incised.
The production of ceramics was massive and large scale, as the use of molds for mass production was commonly used. Chancay was apparently treated with industrial criteria, which included from the use of molds for the manufacture of small or large vessels; as well as the use of brands in the base of their ceramics.
