    Description

Up for bid is an interesting old Italian silver lidded sugar bowl with a raven finial from the Kingdom of Two Sicilies, 1832-1872.  The piece is 5 ½ inches tall by about 3 inches in diameter and weighs 151 grams.  The interiors have hammer marks from hand forming.  The slide-in lid has bands of engine-turned decoration and is topped with a 3-D figure of a bird, probably a raven or rook.  The body has similar decoration, and it stands on a high ring foot.  It has not been monogrammed.  It is marked on the inner rim and inside the foot with the Neapolitan domestic 834 silver standard mark.  The lid rim also bears an “F” stamp and an insect in a rectangle designating an import to France from Italy.
Condition on the piece is fairly good.  The inner rim of the lid is a bit crudely attached and does not fit well, but it seems to be original.  There are several small dents, mainly to the rim of the lid, as well as wear from years of handling.  An interesting old bowl!
