Slide
used for educational purposes in university setting.
One in a series of hand-painted magic lantern slides entitled 'The Elephant's Revenge', made by Newton and Company in 1870.
The series tells the story of what happens when a man taunts an elephant. This is the eighth slide in the series, showing the elephant dangling the man over a crocodile waiting with open jaws.

While education can sometimes be troubling, I come down on the side of
collectors like Dr. Henry Lewis Gates
and Oprah Winfrey
who insist that we should not negate or erase our past.
