    Description

Beautiful Pair 1800s European Silver Table Candlesticks w Engraved Decoration
Presented is a lovely pair of antique silver table candlesticks, dating to the
mid 1800s. These were likely made somewhere in eastern Europe, near Russia, as
they are hallmarked in the system used by Russian and surrounding areas. The
candlesticks are made in an ornate fluted and balustroid form, with finely hand
engraved floral decoration. The wax drips or bobeches are removeable, for ease
of cleaning. The silver is nice and thick, and the candlesticks have good weight
    to them.
The candlesticks are in good overall condition. Both have old solder repairs
to the narrowest point above the base, but these were well done and are
themselves possibly antique. The candlesticks have some minor dents here and
there, and some small holes worn through on the silver, but nothing major. No
monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
Each candlestick is stamped with a maker's mark or other mark of 'M' as well
as 84, which indicates the purity of the silver, 875/1000. The zolotnik system
of hallmarking, of which 84 (out of 96) is an example, was used by Russia and
surrounding areas. The bobeches are also marked 84.
Each candlestick stands about 9 1/2 inches tall and measures about 4 1/4
    inches square at the base.
The total weight for the pair is 422 grams or 14.9 regular ounces.
