    Description

Please email with any questions. 12 1/4" by 9 3/4" cardboard poster printed to advertise a joint recital of George L Johnson, tenor and Madam Vivian King Bright. The "place" and "date" would have been filled in by the venue- it seems like this was a tour of the artists from town to town. I could not find any information about Madam King Bright but I did find a few references to Mr Johnson who was born in Coal Creek, Tennessee in 1875, attended Knoxville College and in 1903 became first tenor with William's Original Dixie Jubilee Singers. In 1912 he was a soloist for a performance in Chicago of the Choral Study Club of Chicago. In the 1920's Mr Johnson was known as a music specialist of African-American songs with the national headquarters of Community Service. This poster is missing the top right corner and has some areas of soiling on the edges. Inexpensively produced when new, the ink on the picture of Mr Johnson and some of the lettering is a little light.
