5 Speed Manual

4.4L 4-Cam V12

Wonderfully documented Daytona with all history from new, and service records dating back to 1972! Showing just under 57,000 original miles on the original, number's matching drivetrain! Always stored and cared for in collector fashion! Fitted with original Borani wire wheels, additional Cromodora alloy wheels included, all original window glass, tools, owner's manuals, and repair manual! A remarkable Ferrari collector car!
Debuting at the 1968 Paris Auto Show, Ferrari's newest Grand Touring automobile would come wearing newly sculpted Pininfarina styling renamed the 365GTB/4 Berlinetta. It would replace the popular 275GTB/4, while retaining the front-engine V12 platform Ferrari came to love on its GT cars. The body would become a little more edgy with distinctively sharper angles, with all coachwork completed by Scaglietti in Modena, Italy. The Tipo 226 engine would increase in size to a new Tipo 251 designation, growing from 3.3L to 4.4L using a larger bore and stroke. Feeding the engine would be six Weber DCN 20/21A 2-bbl carburetors along with Magnetti Marelli Dinoplex ignition. Performance was outstanding, pushing the 365GTB/4 from 0-60 in about 5.5 seconds along with a top speed just a tick shy of 175mph! It would be claim the honor of the world's fastest production car and Ferrari's most expensive offering! Built between 1969 and 1973, only 1,284 GTB/4 Berlinetta coupes by Scaglietti would be produced. Today, they continue to be hailed as one of Ferrari's greatest GT-cars ever created!
This 1971 Ferrari 365GTB/4 Berlinetta by Scaglietti chassis #14635 is finished in striking Nero- Black (Originally Rame Metallic- Copper Metallic) over Beige & Black Daytona leather seats. Power comes from its original number's matching engine #B1356 and classic 5-speed gate-shifted transaxle producing a robust 352 horsepower and 318 ft. lbs. of torque! Amenities were abundant on the 365GTB/4 to include power windows, air conditioning, leather-wrapped 3-spoke steering wheel, in-operable Becker Mexico AM/FM/cassette Stereo audio system in stock location (Pioneer CD player hidden in glovebox), windshield washer, FIAMM Italian air horns, 15x7.5" Borani-Milano chrome wire spoke wheels wrapped in Michelin XWX 215/70VR15 tubeless radial tires! The original Cromodora 15" alloy wheels are included with the sale, also fitted with Michelin XWX tires.
Our example sold new from Modern Classic Motors in Reno, NV on February 15, 1972 to Dr. Raymond Records from the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Nebraska-Omaha. He would enjoy this Ferrari regularly during the warmer driving season, having his first 12k Service performed by Luigi Chinetti in Motors, Inc in Greenwich, CT by that October 1972. It had already accumulated 10,468 miles by that time. He would sell the car to an fellow doctor based in Tacoma, WA in May 1977 with 28,694 miles on the odometer. The new owners would maintain this still all-original Ferrari until August 1994, before selling to car to Ferrari of Beverly Hills with just 36,934 miles.
Once at Ferrari in California, they would fully service it to include rebuilding and balancing all carburetors, install new spark plugs, new battery & cables, fuel filters, performed a compression check, and installed a new clutch assembly. After it had sat on the market without fetching any buyer, they presumed the original color of Copper Metallic was not attractive enough. It was then sent to Coachworks Automotive of Beverly Hills in November 1995 for a complete, comprehensive color change to Black, along with the addition of the chrome Borani wire spoke wheels with new tires. The resulting effort rewarded a new attorney owner from Menlo Park, CA with a strikingly fresh 365GTB/4 Berlinetta!
Continuing the impressive care, all work under his ownership was performed by Ferrari of San Francisco including a full 30k service in 1997 and rebuilt water pump in 1998. The fourth owner found the car through consignment in 2001 at Park Place Ltd. back in Washington state. Now showing 41,809 miles on the odometer, it would be impeccably cared for throughout his 10 years of ownership. This included new Tubi style exhaust system installed, MSD ignition integrated, rebuilt front and rear suspension with Koni shocks installed, rebuilt start motor, new Michelin tires, and rebuilt rear calipers from April 2002 thru November 2007. Alfa of Tacoma LTD. and Group 2 Motorsposts in Seattle were his service centers of choice.
The most recent enthusiast owner from Beecher, IL purchased the car in October 2011 after a successful PPI completed at Alfa of Tacoma LTD. It showed a very honest, original 365GTB/4 with excellent compression and leak down results at 54,856 miles. All new window trim was installed in 2012 along with an extensive detailing to the individual components on the interior and exterior. It retains Sigla front & rear windshields, and Sekurit side glass. All service receipts dating back to 1972 are included, along with owner's manuals in leather case, Ferrari delivery papers, original Italian Ministry of Transport libretto, complete factory tool set, set of non-eared center caps, and reprinted assembly/ repair manual.
It had its last PPI Inspection in November of 2020 with 56,286 miles on the odometer, which are shown as pictures in this listing along with the engine compression results. Upon arrival to the St. Louis Car Museum, we serviced the air conditioning system to perform at full operation once again and replaced the rear brake pads for new. It continues to impress and should not disappoint the next lucky owner! Please feel welcome to call with additional questions or schedule a chance to review this special opportunity in person! Thanks for looking!
